You say it is my heart
That you wish to win
To be honest from the start
It can't be done my friend...
For you see I gave it away dear
To another that I called "friend"
I forgot to hold it close and near
And he gave it back again
But it wasn't whole and happy
as it once was back then
It came back to me in pieces
And is yet not able to make the mend
His name, you ask...what was it?
Does it really matter to you?
What's to say if I gave it away
You wouldn't break it too?
His name was keeper of my faith,
Love and confidence I had in him
But his unending love for me ....
was not what it seemed to be
And my life, by his choice, he is no longer in.
Though he kissed my lips so tenderly
Caressed my skin and stroked my hair
Proclaiming his passionate love for me
It couldn't have been true or he'd still be here.
But the blind...in love, they never see.
He held me gently in his arms
And pressed me to his chest
All fears and foes were soon forgotten
Bodies entwined and souls at rest.
He taught me the meaning of passion
And made a woman of me
But that isn't love or he'd still be here
Or wouldn't you agree?
Though he slept with me in love-spent arms
Soothed my fears and dried my tears
And brought the morning's kiss
Comfort through the trying days
Bringing a smile with his charming ways
Those things, I will always miss...
But have you ever heard the sound
The human heart does make
When the one it was entrusted to
Lets it fall from the hand and break?
Friend, You have been kind to me
And honest with you I'll be
When the pieces of a heart are
gathered together,
and lessons are learned
for the worse or the better...
It has clearly come to me...
My heart cannot be won, my friend
The pieces are forever enshrined
Until the end of time
Within a tomb no eye shall ever see.
